AEO Tracker: see whether AI engines name your brand

AEOTrack asks the questions your buyers ask, on ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity and Grok, every week — and tells you two things most tools conflate: whether the answer named you, and whether it cited your page.

What an AEO tracker actually measures

Search used to end in a list of links, so tracking meant recording a position. An AI answer ends in a paragraph. There is no position 1 to hold — the answer either names you or it doesn't, and it either used your page to write itself or it didn't. Those are two separate facts and they move independently, so AEOTrack records them separately.

MetricWhat it tells you
Mention rateHow often answers name your brand at all
Citation rateHow often an engine used one of your URLs as its source
Position prominenceWhether you lead the answer or appear in a closing list
Share of voiceWho gets named instead of you, and how often
Per-engine splitWhich of the five engines have you and which have never heard of you

The per-engine split is the one that surprises people most. It is entirely normal for a brand to be named in six of eleven ChatGPT answers and in zero Gemini, Claude and Perplexity answers for the same questions. A tracker that samples one engine reports one engine's opinion as though it were the market's.

Why every score carries a range

Ask any engine the same question twice in an afternoon and you can get two different lists. Measured properly, a single-sample score swings by 15 points or more with nothing changed on your site. So a bare number is a false reading, and AEOTrack shows a confidence range alongside every score: the range is the part we are actually confident about, and it narrows as the sample grows.

Two consequences follow, and they are the reason the product works the way it does. Checks run weekly, because daily checking mostly measures that jitter and teaches you to react to it. And branded questions — ones containing your own name — are scored separately, because they inflate every metric and flatter every report.

How AEOTrack tracks AEO

1. A question set that looks like your buyers

Ten to twenty questions a real buyer would type, mostly without your brand in them. The tracker suggests a starting set from your site, and you edit it — the questions are the measurement instrument, so they should be yours.

2. Every question, on every engine, on a schedule

ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity and Grok, re-run weekly. Full answers are stored, not just a yes/no, so you can read what the engine actually said and see which sources it leaned on.

3. Sources, competitors and gaps

Every cited domain is collected. Sources cited repeatedly that never mention you are your content gap, stated concretely: these are the pages an engine trusts on your topic, and you are not on them.

4. A weekly summary of what changed

After each run you get the score movement, the questions newly won and newly lost, who overtook you, and one concrete fix — so the tracking produces a decision rather than a dashboard.

The fastest way to see where you stand is the free 14-day trial: add a domain and the first run scores it for AI readiness — schema, structure, depth, crawlability — and runs a live visibility check across five engines. No credit card. If the score is low, the audit tells you which specific things to fix first; if it is high and you are still invisible in answers, that is a different and more interesting problem, and the tracker is what diagnoses it.

Ongoing tracking starts at $29 a month and includes the weekly checks across all five engines, citation tracking, competitors and the improvement plan.

Frequently asked

What is an AEO tracker?

A tool that measures whether AI answer engines name your brand when someone asks a question in your category, and whether they cite your pages as the source — by asking a fixed question set on a schedule and storing every answer.

Which engines should it cover?

ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity and Grok at minimum. They disagree with each other often enough that partial coverage is misleading rather than merely incomplete.

How often should I track?

Weekly for most brands. Daily tracking of a small pinned set is worth it where answers genuinely move day to day — launches, news cycles. Pro monitors your 3 most important questions daily, Business 5, Enterprise 10, and the trial includes it on days you sign in; it pauses after 14 days without a sign-in so nobody pays for checks nobody reads.

Can I track AEO for free?

The 14-day trial is free and needs no card. Ongoing weekly tracking with history, competitors and citations is what the paid plans cover.

Does AEOTrack track Perplexity and Claude?

Yes. Every tracked question is asked of ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity and Grok on the same schedule, and the answer from each engine is stored and scored separately. Perplexity and Claude are search-grounded in the check, so what is recorded is what those assistants answer with live retrieval, not a memorised guess. The per-engine split shows which of the five name you and which never do.

How do I track how often my company is cited in ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity?

Write down the questions a buyer in your category asks, then ask each engine those questions on a fixed schedule and record two facts per answer: was the brand named, and was one of its pages used as a source. AEOTrack does this for you across five engines and keeps the history, so a citation that appears or disappears shows up as a change rather than an anecdote. The 14-day trial gives the first reading on the day you add the domain.

What is the alternative to tracking AEO by hand?

Tracking by hand means pasting the same questions into ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity and Grok one at a time and noting the result in a spreadsheet. It works once and breaks as a habit: answers drift with phrasing and time, there is no history, and nobody re-runs it weekly. The alternative is a fixed question set run on a schedule with the per-engine history kept, which is what an AEO tracker is. AEOTrack runs weekly checks on every plan, with on-demand re-checks from a monthly pool.
