What the Free AI Visibility Audit Shows, Section by Section
The free audit asks AI tools one buyer question and shows the full evidence: the answers, who was named, the pages read and a link to ask it yourself. What each part tells you, and what the trial adds.
The free audit shows the full evidence for one buyer question. It asks two AI tools one question your buyers would ask, then shows you everything they answered: whether they named you, every business they named instead, with a link to its own site when the answer gave one, each full answer, the pages they read and a link to ask the same question yourself. A separate site hygiene check grades your homepage underneath. This post walks through the result in the order it appears, so you can check every part of it yourself.
What the audit runs
Enter your website and your email on the audit page. In about a minute, two things run:
- One buyer question, asked live. AEOTrack writes a question your buyers would ask and puts it to two AI tools, normally ChatGPT and Perplexity, through their APIs with live web search on, in a fresh session.
- A site hygiene grade from 0 to 100. Your homepage is fetched and checked for its code and content: title, meta description, structured data, llms.txt and similar. This grades the page; it is not whether AI names you.
No account and no card. The same website can be audited again after 7 days; inside that window the stored result comes back, with the date it was checked. Every result has its own page you can share, and a summary goes to your email.
The result, part by part
| Part | What the free audit shows | What the trial adds |
|---|---|---|
| The finding | Named, named by one of the two tools, or not named, in one line | The same reading for every one of your buyers’ questions |
| The exact question | The question word for word, when it was asked and which tools were not asked | Up to 25 questions, asked on five AI tools |
| Each AI tool’s answer | Its verdict, the model that answered and the full answer text | Every answer stored and readable, on every check |
| Named instead | Every business each tool named, with a link to its own site when the answer gave one | Who is named for each of your questions, and how often |
| The pages AI read | Every page the tools read, once, with which tool read it and whether it is your own site | The pages read for all your questions, ranked by how often they are read |
| Ask it yourself | A link that opens the same question in ChatGPT or Perplexity | A daily check while you use the trial, so one answer is never the whole story |
| Site hygiene | Your homepage grade, and how many checks passed in each category | Each issue with its fix, in the order that matters most to AI tools |
The finding and the exact question
The result opens with what the two tools did: both named you, one did, or neither did. Under it is the question exactly as it was asked, the date and time (in UTC), and the AI tools this check did not ask. A check is an API call in a fresh session with web search on, so your own chat may answer differently.
Each AI tool’s answer
Each tool gets its own card: its verdict, the model that answered, the businesses it named and the opening of its answer, with the full answer one tap away. When an answer reached the stored length, the card says so. A tool that gave advice and named no business, or did not answer at all, is shown as that, never as “did not name you”.
Named instead
When AI tools do not name you, they usually name somebody. The audit lists every business each tool named, and links each one to its own site when the answer pointed to it. You can open the answer and see the same names in it.
The pages AI read
AI tools name the businesses they find on the pages they read. The list shows every page the tools read for this question, which tool read it, and whether any of them is your own site. Those pages are where to start: getting onto the pages the tools read is how a business gets named.
Ask it yourself
Each card has a link that opens the same question in that AI tool. The answer you get may differ, because AI answers vary from one ask to the next and your own chat knows things an API call does not. That is the point of the link: you can see for yourself that the check asked a real question and recorded a real answer.
Site hygiene, not AI visibility
The homepage grade comes last, under its own label. It counts which checks passed in each category (website health, SEO foundation, AI readiness, accessibility). A good grade does not mean you will be named, and a weak one does not mean you cannot be. It is about whether the page is easy to read, which is the smallest of the levers but the one fully in your hands.
Why one question is a snapshot, and what tracking adds
The audit is one question on two AI tools on one day. AI answers vary from check to check, so a single answer is a useful signal and a poor measurement. Our study of 8,758 answers found that when an engine had named a business for a question, a week later it gave the opposite verdict about 1 time in 3. Tracking asks all of your buyers’ questions across five AI tools (ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity and Grok), again and again, and reports a score with a ± range so you can tell a real move from noise.
After the audit
The 7-day free trial runs on the Starter plan’s limits with no card: 1 website, 25 questions, 10 topics and 10 competitors, with every question and topic checked daily while you use it. Your audit carries over: the audit’s question and its answers become your first result, and the businesses it found are suggested as competitors.
The trial is not extended, and each website gets one trial. At the end of it, choose a paid plan to keep tracking; nothing is charged automatically. Plans and limits are on the pricing page.
Questions
Is the AI visibility audit really free?
Yes. No account and no card. It needs your email, and a summary of the result is sent there.
Can I see the full answers in the free audit?
Yes. After you give your email, the audit shows each AI tool’s full answer, every business it named, with a link to its own site when the answer gave one, the pages it read and a link to ask the same question yourself. The fixes, your other questions and the daily tracking come with the 7-day free trial or a paid plan.
Which AI tools does the free audit ask?
Two, normally ChatGPT and Perplexity. The trial and every paid plan check five: ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity and Grok.
